One of my favourite things about summer on Vancouver Island is visiting local farms- we have so many to explore here on this beautiful island!

I just love letting kids experience where their food comes from. It’s simple, it gets you outside, and its healthy- truly a win all around.

If you’re looking for a fun family outing, these are some of the best U-Picks around Victoria, BC.

Dan’s Farm & Country Market

For many Victoria families, Dan’s Farm is a summer tradition.

Depending on the season, you’ll find strawberries, raspberries, pumpkins, and plenty of opportunities for kids to explore. It’s easy to visit, family-friendly, and always feels welcoming. The berries are incredible- don’t miss this Victoria hot spot! (Go early, before the heat creeps up!)

Perfect for: First-time U-Pickers and younger children.

Silver Rill Corn

While technically famous for its corn, Silver Rill is a perfect spot on the Peninsula to pack up the fam and head for a few hours of summer fun.

Stopping by for fresh produce, local food, and seasonal farm experiences makes for a wonderful family outing.

Galey Farms

Galey Farms is known for much more than pumpkins if you can believe it!

You can enjoy seasonal events, berry picking, and farm experiences that have become a tradition for many local families. Its pretty central and makes an easy outing from most locations in Victoria too.

Fall is particularly magical here- the kids LOVE it.

Bilston Creek Farm

If you’ve never visited Bilston Creek Farm during lavender season, add it to your list.

It feels as though you’ve stumbled into a magical little world- the big twisty oak and apple trees, fields of lavender, and a river running close by. They often have wood stoked pizza on the weekend and other delicious treats too.

Perfect for: Flower lovers and summer adventures.

Mitchell’s Farm Market

Mitchell’s is one of those places that locals have been visiting for generations.

Depending on the season, you’ll find fresh berries, vegetables, flowers, and plenty of reasons to spend a little extra time exploring.

Sea Cider Orchard

While not a traditional U-Pick, Sea Cider is worth including because of the incredible orchard setting- its really hard to beat!

Families can wander the property, enjoy the views, and experience one of the most beautiful farm settings around Victoria. They also hold events such as markets which are always a hit with our family and worth the drive every time.

The most delicious berry cobbler (low sugar)

Healthy-ish Mixed Berry Cobbler

Filling

  • 6 cups mixed berries (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1–2 tbsp maple syrup or honey (optional, depending on berry sweetness)
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Topping

  • 1 cup flour (or 3/4 cup flour + 1/4 cup oats)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp coconut sugar, brown sugar, or maple syrup
  • 1/3 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1/3 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2–3 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Toss berries with cornstarch, lemon juice, vanilla, and maple syrup. Pour into a greased baking dish.
  3. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  4. Cut in the cold butter until crumbly.
  5. Stir in Greek yogurt and milk until a shaggy dough forms.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of topping over the berries.
  7. Bake for 30–40 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
