Sunflower Fields Near Victoria, BC: The Best Places to See Sunflowers This Summer

Looking for sunflower fields near Victoria, BC? Whether you’re planning a family outing, a date night, or simply want to wander through rows of bright yellow blooms with an iced coffee in hand, these are some of the best sunflower farms and fields within a short drive of Victoria.

As a local photographer (and mom), I’m always on the hunt for beautiful places to spend a slow summer evening. Sunflower fields only bloom for a few weeks each year, making them one of my favourite late-summer adventures.

1. Galey Farms – Victoria, BC 🌻

This is probably the most well-known sunflower destination near Victoria- and it is for a reason!

Every summer, Galey Farms plants thousands of sunflowers alongside their famous corn maze. Walking through the towering blooms feels almost magical, especially in the evening when the light turns golden.

Good to know:

  • Massive sunflower field
  • Great for families
  • Corn maze nearby
  • Plenty of parking
  • Seasonal admission applies

Best time to visit: Late July through August (check their website before visiting).

2. Sunflower Festival at Silver Rill Farm – Metchosin

If you’re hoping for a quieter experience, keep an eye out for local sunflower festivals that pop up at smaller farms around Metchosin.

These events often include:

  • Local vendors
  • Fresh flowers
  • Food trucks
  • Live music
  • U-pick bouquets

They usually only run for a few weekends each summer, so it’s worth checking social media before heading out.

3. Small Local Farm Stands

Many smaller farms around Saanich and the Peninsula grow patches of sunflowers during the summer. While they aren’t always large enough to wander through, they’re perfect if you’re looking to pick up a bouquet or snap a few quick photos.

Some years you’ll find beautiful sunflower displays while exploring:

  • Central Saanich
  • North Saanich
  • Metchosin
  • Saanich Peninsula

When Do Sunflowers Bloom Near Victoria?

Most sunflower fields around Victoria begin blooming in late July and continue through August, depending on the weather.

Since the blooming season is fairly short, it’s worth checking each farm’s website or Instagram before making the drive.

The Best Time of Day to Visit

If you’re hoping for photos you’ll treasure, visit about one to two hours before sunset.

Golden hour makes the flowers glow, the temperatures are cooler, and the crowds have usually started to thin out.

Morning can also be beautiful if you’re looking for soft light and fewer visitors.

Tips for Visiting Sunflower Fields

  • Wear comfortable shoes (many fields are uneven).
  • Bring water—sunflower fields can get hot in the afternoon.
  • Be respectful of the flowers and stay on marked paths.
  • Check bloom updates before driving out.
  • Don’t forget bug spray!

Can You Take Photos in Sunflower Fields?

Absolutely—but always check each farm’s photography policy.

Some farms welcome casual family photos, while others require photographers to book permits or photography sessions.

If you’re planning a professional family session, it’s always best to ask permission beforehand.

My Favourite Way to Spend a Summer Evening

One of my favourite summer evenings looks something like this:

Grab coffee, wander through the sunflower fields, let the kids pick a flower, watch them run between the rows, then finish the evening with ice cream on the drive home.

Those slow, ordinary evenings often become the memories we treasure the most.
