There’s something about a really good coffee shop that can completely change the course of a day- especially for us tired parents!
Sometimes it’s the excuse you need to get out of the house. Sometimes it’s a place to catch up with a friend, enjoy a quiet moment alone, or start an adventure somewhere new.
While Victoria is full of great coffee shops, these are the ones I find myself returning to again and again. As a photographer, I also also spend a lot of time hanging in coffee shops to get out of my home office for the day. If you’re looking for coffee shops in Victoria BC that are worth building your day around, start here.

If I could only choose one coffee shop to recommend to a visitor, Iluka would be near the top of the list.
The coffee is excellent, the space is beautiful, and it’s perfectly positioned for a walk along the Gorge afterward. Grab your drink, head down to the water, and enjoy one of the most peaceful strolls in the city.
They also have the most beautiful smoothie bowls, and their Iluka bun is a must try!
Pair it with: A walk along the Gorge Waterway.
Hey Happy has become a Victoria favourite for good reason.
Their coffee is consistently excellent, the branding is fun, and the downtown location makes it an easy stop while exploring the city. Whether you’re meeting a friend or grabbing a coffee before wandering through downtown Victoria, it’s hard to go wrong.
Pair it with: A browse through Munro’s Books.

Saint Cecilia feels less like a coffee shop and more like a beautiful gathering space.
The interior is stunning, the food is delicious, and it’s one of those places where you sit down intending to stay for twenty minutes and somehow end up there for an hour and a half.
Pair it with: A slow morning and nowhere else to be.
The Coffee Shack is one of those places locals love because it feels completely unpretentious.
Good coffee, friendly service, and a relaxed atmosphere make it the perfect stop before heading out for a beach walk or a day of exploring.
The smell in here from fresh baked goods is always 10/10.
Sometimes simple is exactly what you’re looking for.
Pair it with: A walk to the Langford Farmer Market on a Saturday
Technically a little outside Victoria, but absolutely worth the drive.
If you’re heading north toward the Cowichan Valley, make a stop at Drumroaster. Their coffee is exceptional and the whole experience feels like a destination in itself.
It’s one of those places that makes a road trip even better. And you have to try their chunky monkey muffin, it’s worth the drive just for that!
Pair it with: A day exploring the Cowichan Valley.

Wairua is one of those coffee shops that people tend to discover because someone they trust recommended it.
The coffee is excellent, the atmosphere is welcoming, and it feels distinctly Victoria. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in with a book, catch up with a friend, or simply enjoy a quiet moment to yourself.
Pair it with: A rainy afternoon and a good book.
If you’re willing to venture a little beyond Victoria, Sundays in Duncan is absolutely worth the drive.
Bright, welcoming, and beautifully designed, it’s one of those coffee shops that feels special the moment you walk through the door. The owner is lovely, The coffee is excellent, the curated selection of gifts to purchase are unique, and the atmosphere somehow manages to feel both lively and relaxing at the same time.
What I love most about Sundays is that it turns a simple coffee run into an outing. It’s the kind of place where you meet a friend and end up staying far longer than planned. Oh, and I also love the sweet dog who the coffee shop is named after!
If you’re heading up Island for the day, make this your first stop. You won’t be disappointed in stumbling across this rare gem!
Pair it with: A wander through downtown Duncan and the local shops nearby.

Some local favourites include Iluka Espresso, Hey Happy, Saint Cecilia, Wairua, The Coffee Shack, and Drumroaster Coffee.
Saint Cecilia, Hey Happy, Sundays, and Wairua all offer welcoming spaces where it’s easy to settle in and stay awhile.
The Coffee Shack, Sundays, and Drumroaster Coffee are both worth venturing beyond downtown for.
Iluka Espresso paired with a walk along the Gorge is one of my favourite combinations in Victoria.
One of the things I love most about Victoria is that so many great adventures start with something simple.
A coffee in hand. A free morning. A little curiosity.
