One of my favourite things about living on Vancouver Island is how easy it is to spend a day at the beach. Surrounded by water, we have some many options for beach days, and you bet we’ve explored as many beaches we can!
Some we love to visit for quick swim, others are ideal for toddlers who need room to run. And a few are simply beautiful places to wander with nowhere particular to be.
While there are plenty of beaches around Victoria, these are the ones my family finds ourselves returning to again and again.
If you’re looking for family friendly beaches in Victoria BC, here are a few of our favourites.

If I could only recommend one beach to a visiting family, Island View would be near the top of my list. We love a beach where you can find your own spot, away from the crowds that some of the beaches closer to downtown Victoria have.
The shoreline stretches for what feels like forever, giving kids endless room to explore, build driftwood forts, collect treasures, and run to their hearts’ content. There’s enough space that even on busy summer days it rarely feels crowded.
Pack bikes, bring a picnic, and plan to stay awhile. TIP: stop at harvest road (about 2 mins up the road) for some yummy grub on your way!
Perfect for: Long beach walks, driftwood forts, and family adventures.
Willows Beach is a Victoria classic for good reason.
The sandy shoreline, gentle water, and nearby shops make it one of the easiest family beach outings in the city. During the summer you’ll find families spread across the grass, kids splashing in the shallows, and plenty of opportunities for an ice cream afterward.
It’s one of those places that somehow feels nostalgic even if it’s your first visit.
TIP: get here early on the warm summer day to get a spot.
Perfect for: Traditional summer beach days.

This is one of our favs! Tucked within East Sooke Regional Park, Aylard Farm Beach feels like a little reward at the end of the walk.
The trail to the beach is easy enough for families (and stroller/wagon friendly) and offers beautiful views along the way. Once you arrive, you’ll find a wide stretch of shoreline, driftwood, and some of the most beautiful coastal scenery around Victoria.
This is often one of the beaches I recommend when people want to experience the rugged beauty of Vancouver Island without committing to a major hike. Always worth the drive.
TIP: Wander through the arbutus forest (to the left of the main beach).
Perfect for: Families who love nature and exploring.
If you have younger kids, Cadboro-Gyro is definitely a top contender.
The beach sits right beside one of the best playgrounds in Victoria, making it easy to move between sand play and climbing structures. The water is usually calm, the beach is family-friendly, and there are plenty of places to spread out a blanket. Another beach that may be busy but its pretty easy to find your own little zone.
TIP: grab some fresh fruit and drinks at Peppers Foods up the street.
Perfect for: Toddlers and younger children.

Finnerty Cove feels a little more hidden than some of the beaches on this list.
Tucked away near UVic, this small beach offers beautiful views, rocky shoreline exploration, and a quieter atmosphere than many of Victoria’s larger beaches.
It’s not necessarily the beach I’d choose for an all-day outing, but it’s perfect when you’re looking for a peaceful place to explore for an hour or two or for a quick swim before dinner.
Perfect for: Tidepool exploration and quieter adventures.
Albert Head has become one of my favourite this last year.
The beach feels surprisingly wild considering how close it is to town. There are often birds to watch, rocks to climb, and endless opportunities for little ones to investigate whatever catches their attention.
The sunsets here can be particularly beautiful, making it a lovely place to end the day.
TIP: get an ice cream and go visit the farm animals at My-Chosen-Cafe after the beach!
Perfect for: Nature lovers and sunset seekers.
The older I get, the more I realize that some of the best family outings are often the simplest. I grew up in the prairies so Im making up time now of all the years of missed beach days!
You can pack as much or as little as you’d like- a blanket, a few snacks, a couple of sand toys and a book (depending on the ages of your kids!) and you’re ready to go.
The beach has a way of slowing everyone down and creating space for connection, exploration, and the kind of memories that don’t feel important in the moment but somehow become the ones we treasure most.

Cadboro-Gyro Park is one of the most toddler-friendly beaches thanks to its playground, calm shoreline, and family-friendly atmosphere.
Island View Beach and Willows Beach are both fantastic options for spreading out a blanket and enjoying a picnic.
Finnerty Cove and Albert Head Lagoon often feel more peaceful than some of Victoria’s busier beaches.
Aylard Farm Beach and Albert Head Lagoon are both wonderful choices for families who enjoy exploring and discovering new things outdoors.
Beach day will always be my favourite memories. Our waters in and around Victoria can be pretty chilly, but I encourage you to try to get in! The feeling after you get out-tingly and fresh- is worth the hard, I promise!
Let m know if you have any other favourite beaches we should try out!

And if you’d like to preserve this season of life while your kids are still little, I’d love to help. Many of my favourite family photo sessions take place at the beaches I listed above- I’d love to chat to you about documenting some memories for you!
Enjoy the sun!
