1. Albert Head Lagoon Regional Park
Albert Head is one of those places that feels surprisingly quiet despite being so close to town. Just a quick drive and you feel miles away from the city.
There isn’t much of a walk from the parking lot, and once you arrive you’ll find driftwood, ocean views, and plenty of space to spread out a blanket. My daughter loves searching for crabs and skipping rocks here.
Best for: Families looking for a peaceful beach picnic away from the crowds.
2. Glen Lake Park
Glen Lake Park is one of the easiest family picnic spots around in Victoria, BC.
With a playground, sandy beach area, grassy spaces, and calm water, and even a splash park in the summer, it’s the best spot to enjoy a picnic. You can spend the morning swimming, playing at the park, fishing off the dock, or building sand castles in the sand.
Best for: An easy, low-stress outing with younger children.
3. Beacon Hill Park
A Victoria classic for good reason.
Between the children’s farm, duck ponds, gardens, and open green spaces, there’s enough here to keep kids entertained for hours. Bring a picnic lunch and let the day unfold naturally. Bonus- there is also yummy ice cream and Beacon Drive In across the street!
Best for: Families wanting a full day adventure.
4. Cadboro-Gyro Park
Cadboro Bay Beach is one of the most family-friendly beaches in Greater Victoria, and although often busy, its large enough to not feel crowded.
The playground sits right beside the beach, making it easy to move between sand play and climbing structures. On warmer days, you’ll find families picnicking under the trees while kids splash along the shoreline or hang at the unique park.
Best for: Families with toddlers who love both beaches and playgrounds.
5. Island View Beach Regional Park
If your kids love space to run, Island View Beach is hard to beat.
The wide shoreline, driftwood structures, and open grassy areas make it feel like there’s always something to explore at Island View Beach. It’s one of those places where you can easily lose track of time. Worth the drive- and if you don’t have any ideas for food, you can pick up delicious food at the food truck just up the road called Harvest Road.
Best for: Adventurous families who enjoy long beach walks.
6. Royal Roads University
This might be one of the most underrated picnic spots in the region, and an amazing gem spot to discover.
The grounds around Hatley Castle offer beautiful gardens, ocean views, winding paths, and plenty of open lawns for a family picnic. It’s especially lovely in spring and early summer when everything is in bloom!
Best for: Families looking for a beautiful hidden gem close to Victoria.

Let’s face it, as parents we are always trying to keep our kids entertained- always looking for the next best thing. But sometimes the best kind of outing is the most simple one. A blanket, some yummy food, and a beautiful spot to explore.
